Greetings from all of us here at Serenity Now.
I (Brooke) want to thank you for reminding me every day that together we bring light to the world.
Lately, I have been thinking about the topic of prayer. What brought it to the forefront of my mind, was when I heard Joyce Meyer say that she had prayed for her husband to quit loving sports so much. One day, she walked into the house and she found him watching a football game, listening to a baseball game, and shining his golf clubs. She said, “At that moment I thought; ‘prayer doesn’t work.’” Of course, she finished by saying that it took her years to realize that asking God to change her husband was not what it was all about.
After hearing that I reflected on prayer, and what I came up with is this verse; Mathew 6:33: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you”. This is really where it’s at. For me today, prayer means to keep my eyes on the prize. In other words, it is to know that the Universe is for me… that God is my source, and all the details are being taken care of by the Infinite.
What I mean is, prayer really is what lets me feel safe and secure enough that the need for manipulating or controlling everything and everyone disappears. If we are never alone, and have never separated from the Love that created us, then I don’t have to be competent in that sense of separateness. My prayer is for all of us to know, as A Course in Miracles puts it, “Perfect security and complete fulfillment is our inheritance”, and for us to say yes to that.
