Meet and Greet with VaVa, the Devon Rex Cat and local Author, Renee Duane.
September 29 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Prepare your little ones for a treat. VaVa, the Devon Rex cat will be at Serenity Now again! He will be available for a “meet and greet” with his fans from 1:00-2:30. The VaVa Lessons series will be available for purchase and VaVa will have them “paw signed!”
The VaVa Lessons books are written by local author, Renee Duane. This delightful series is for children ages 3-9. Renee tells people VaVa is her creative mews. The books practically wrote themselves as VaVa channeled them to her. VaVa was a developmentally delayed kitten. As he tells the reader in book I: I was separated from my kitty mother two days after I was born. She needed surgery. She didn’t get the chance to teach me things a mother cat teaches her babies.” And so, VaVa began his first adventure which was to learn confidence.
The five part series builds on the one before, however they readily stand alone. As VaVa tells us at the beginning of each book, his real name is Vasishta (Va see sh ta.) It is Sanskrit for Bringer of Light. After learning confidence, VaVa proceeds to learn about love and happiness. His inadvertent splash in the pool taught him about the importance of safety. When VaVa’s housemate, Durga went to heaven Vava got to experience sorrow. When baby brother arrived he felt jealousy. He learned from these experiences all things truly felt will pass. The series concludes with VaVa finally discovering what it means to be a “Bringer of Light.”
When he’s not being the creative mews, VaVa is a working kitty. For over two years, twice a month he and Renee visit with the residents at a local nursing home. He’s developed quite a fan base as he brings smiles and receives tender touches and kisses from his friends at the home. It is at the nursing home that VaVa gets to be a Bringer of Light.
