Greetings from all of us here at Serenity Now.
I (Brooke) want to thank you for the simple pleasure of getting to know you.
Today, I wanted to share with you a little bit about the behind the scenes of these emails. First of all, there is somewhat of a ritual and process to writing them. Even though I put my name on each one, truly the ideas are given to me. Not only that, many times there is great reluctance and resistance on my part about receiving what I have been given. Add a large portion of procrastination to the whole mix, and it all becomes darn right comical. Not only am I guided on what to write, but also on programs to watch, or articles and books to read. Imagine the guidance being to watch “Secrets of the Bible”, when I want to watch “Magic Mike Live!” However, once I yield or surrender to the process, some beautiful events have occurred.
I have noticed that whatever the theme is on the emails, seems to be the theme of the miracles that unfold in the store as well. Once I let the writing take place, it goes through a vigorous editing process. For one thing, I make a point to read it to the staff. This makes it become interactive instead of solitary. Plus, I get to see their authentic reaction, which is priceless. Sometimes a spontaneous giggle or a squirm of discomfort speaks volumes. One month, the theme of the email was “signs and symbols.” I was able to gather a few of us to read the newsletter. Five minutes after everyone leaves the room, one of our precious staff comes back in and says that she had found a set of oracle cards named “Keepers of the Light”. She wanted to see if it would fit in with the items that we carry. My hands were full, so I asked her to pull some cards for me. As it happened, she pulled four cards which I would never do. I usually pull three cards as a habit. The fourth card that she pulled had the name Odin on it, which was a word I knew as part of Norse or Viking legend, but that was all I could recall about him. I remember thinking there was a special message for me from this card, but I didn’t take the time to explore.
Not another five minutes later, another staff member comes into the room and sees the cards, and after extensive shuffling pulls four cards. After I saw the configuration of four cards pulled at random (yeah, right) I took notice. The fourth card was Odin. I threw my hands up in the air as a sign of surrender. I went and got the instruction book of the deck and actually read these words: “Odin works closely with signs and symbols to let you know that you are on the right path”. I kid you not. You can’t make this stuff up.
As it turned out, for the next few weeks we were blessed time and time again with signs and symbols that opened our eyes and had us take notice of miracles that enriched our lives.
I hope you had fun taking a little peek behind the scenes.
